GSSB Family History Resource Library
Welcome to the Genealogical Society of South Brevard Library
The GSSB maintains our library research materials in the Family History Room at the Melbourne Public Library, in Melbourne, Florida. Staffed by volunteers, the library consists of over 7,000 print items, over 500 microfilms, and over 3,000 microfiche. There are film and fiche readers, and two computers which will give you access to the paid sections of Ancestry.com, Newspapers.com, Fold3.com and our full computerized searchable card catalog of genealogical resources. Special collections include Melbourne City Hall records and the Farley collection. In addition, the library contains an archival surname database compiled by the members of all genealogy societies of East Central Florida.
The GSSB library is a research and reference library, so we do not check out any materials. Since resources are not allowed to leave the library, there are tables in the Family History Room for patron use. You can search the GSSB library catalog on the GSSB website or use the full featured computer catalog located in the library. Click this link for help searching the online catalog. We are housed within the Brevard County Public Library, which is located on Fee Avenue in Melbourne, FL.
GSSB staffs the Family History Room (Genealogical Resource Library) with resource volunteers. The specific schedule for volunteers can be viewed on the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER CALENDAR
All GSSB Library materials are privately owned by the society and funded by membership dues and donations. Society members may be reimbursed for half the cost of a desired book if pre-approved by the library committee using our Book Reimbursement Program, Following private use of the book by the member for about a month, they donate it to the library. Full procedures to request participation in the program are located at the above link (members only area).
Since the society's collection of genealogy materials is the property of the GSSB, they are not included in the card catalog files of the Brevard County Library System. Our catalog numbering system may or may not agree with those of the main public library or other libraries. The genealogy catalog can be searched here or in person at the Family History room.
