The GSSB offers a variety of educational opportunities. They range from bi-annual beginning level genealogy classes to a range of specialized programs, how-to workshops, and advanced studies and seminars.
The society also notifies members through it's publications of upcoming non-GSSB training, workshops, seminars, webinars and other learning opportunities that may be of interest to them.
For those new to genealogy, we offer a Basic Genealogy Course. This course is designed to introduce students to the process used in performing genealogical research and to present some of the many valuable research tools available.
This course is taught twice a year, in the Winter and again in the Fall. Classes are normally held at the Melbourne Public Library on Fee Ave., however, we have temporarily suspended in-person classes for the 2021 year due to safety concerns over COVID-19. As an alternative, we are offering an ONLINE Beginner Basic Course.
** The second online basic course is scheduled to begin October 5th, 2021 from 7pm to 8pm, for 8 weeks (ends Nov. 23). Class size is limited so the instructor can provide more personal attention. Pre-registration and payment is required. Email Contact@GSSB.net with questions or to request registration. Payment may be made by non-members by check or online after registering by purchasing a membership ($25 by check or $26.50 online credit card via paypal)
ONLINE COURSE COST: $25 ($26.50 online credit card), Includes one-year membership in The Genealogical Society of South Brevard. A printer is recommended for home printing of materials that may be presented. No cost to current members (with pre-registration). If you are a current member and pay for the Fall course, this will automatically renew your membership in the society for the following year.
IN-PERSON COURSE COST: $35, Includes one-year membership in The Genealogical Society of South Brevard and all class materials. (members pay $10, or $35 including membership extension for one year) In-Person course is temporarily suspended.
